The title, a multiplayer WWII first-person action game powered by Valve's Half-Life technology, provides intense team-based gameplay that pits gamers in Axis vs. Allies squad-based combat in Western Europe at the height of the war in 1944. Day of Defeat is available at retail outlets nationwide for a suggested retail price of $29.99 and carries a "T" (Teen -- Blood, Violence -- content suitable for persons ages 13 and older) rating by the ESRB.

Gamers get ready to finalize war plans and ready the reinforcements as Valve's Day of Defeat has gone gold. The multiplayer action-packed WWII game pits players in Axis vs. Allies squad-based combat in Western Europe at the height of the war in 1944. Day of Defeat is a World War II multiplayer first-person action game that pits players in Axis vs. Allies battles in Western Europe at the height of the war in 1944. Players enlist as snipers, infantrymen, machine gunners, riflemen and sergeants, and then hit the frontlines running using authentic weaponry. The game, which initially debuted as a MOD, features multiple modes of play, a total of 15 multiplayer maps of action -- including 10 new maps, all new character models, hundreds of new animations, increased textures and all new particle effects system.

A new version of the Day of Defeat Half Life Modification is now available, with four separate downloads to choose from, depending on whether you are upgrading a Beta 2.1 Windows or Linux installation or doing a full install for either OS. The new 3.0 version offers loads of fixes and enhancements, including the addition of a new "Para" gameplay mode, cutscenes, removable helmets, and a new spectator system. official site for Day of Defeat today announced the linux build release at 11am PST(2pm EST) followed by the Windows client at 3pm PST. Day of Defeat is a World War II multiplayer total conversion of "Half-life." DoD attempts to recreate WWII battles in both fictional and non-fictional environments. DoD puts you in the shoes (rather, combat boots!) of either an Allied or Axis soldier circa 1944, Western Europe.
