Midway released its 2007 and Q1 2008 financial numbers, revealing net revenues are down (from $96.9M to $77.6M), while Q4 losses increased from $2M in 2006 to $29.7M in 2007. To brace itself for impact, Midway has dropped its $30 million credit with Wells Fargo Foothill and instead opted for a $90 million deal with National Amusements, Inc.

Ever since SCi, Eidos' parent company, revealed that it was in "early/preliminary" talks with several interested parties regarding a possible takeover, rumors have been plentiful. When David Zucker became Midway's CEO in 2003, there were negotiations but nothing came of it, and
a few months back Ubisoft stated it was no longer interested.
Industry insiders now claim SCi and Midway may have picked up where they left off, but neither party gave any comment.

Earlier this week, the Internet was on fiyah when Midway Austin's creative director Harvey Smith, lead designer of Ion Storm's Deus Ex titles, publicly criticized Blacksite: Area 51, for which he was lead designer, as being "f***ed up." Smith made the controversial statement at a Montreal International Game Summit lecture, blaming poor handling and pressure to share tech to get the title out before it was ready. Midway reduced its Q3 2007 expected revenue from $50M to $39M, mainly because of pushing Stranglehold (PS3) into Q4, the delay of UT 3 (PS3) until Q1 2008 and lackluster sales of BlackSite: Area 51 due to the split shipment between the X360 and PS3 versions. Their expected annual revenue has been lowered from $225M to $170M. However new installments in the Mortal Kombat and Blitz franchises were revealed.

Midway's financial result reveals an upward trend of higher revenue ($31.8M, compared to last year's $25.9M) and less loss ($14.3M compared to $31M over the same period last year), with disappointing sales for Wii's Mortal Kombat, Lord of the Rings Online, and Hour of Victory. In the conference call, Midway announced it was delaying BlackSite: Area 51 (from Sept. to Nov. 5,) and Wheelman (all the way back to 2008).
