While there is no official announcement yet, Acquire is developing the next installment in the Way of the Samurai franchise, currently only scheduled for release in Japan this fall. Way of the Samurai 3 will feature over 100 weapons for you to wield in defense of the poor, lonely, while fending off rivaling samurai clans.

The latest issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu reveals that Capcom is bringing its popular Samurai franchise to the next-gen, and each platform will be getting its own title. Way of the Samurai 3 will be the name of the action/adventure title on Playstation 3, while the X360 is getting Way of the Samurai Online. No specific information is available at this point, but the upcoming Tokyo Game Show will surely bring more light to the matter. While the Xbox 360 title is expected at the end 2006, the PS3 version is currently scheduled for 2007.

Developed by Acquire, Way of the Samurai 2 will build on its predecessor's mix of fighting and adventure. The game will be set in a war-torn town during the end of feudal Japan's Edo period. Players will be torn between the town's corrupt magistrate and a group of leaderless ronin. Its story will occur over 10 days and will have a much larger cast of characters and slate of side quests.

Eidos Interactive announces Way of the Samurai on PlayStation 2. The game reached No.1 in the Japanese gaming charts when it was released in February this year. Licensed from Japanese publisher Spike Co. Ltd, Way of the Samurai will be released in September in Europe and Australasia only.

BAM! Entertainment today announced that it will publish Way of the Samurai for the Sony PlayStation 2. Way of the Samurai, a 3D action-adventure game, is a weapons-based combat game with an interesting story element that follows a sizeable cast of characters. Way of the Samurai is being developed by Japan-based Acquire, the developer of the first two titles in the acclaimed Tenchu series, and will ship later this spring.
