LucasArts today announced Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, a role playing game (RPG) for the Xbox, has gone gold and will be available at retail throughout the United States and Canada Wednesday, July 16.

Apparently ignoring the launch debacle the first 2 days, LucasArts' Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, the first Star Wars massively multiplayer online (MMO) game, experienced unprecedented success in its first week of availability, garnering more than 125,000 users and receiving accolades from gaming press and players alike.

This much-anticipated first add-on for the Star Wars Galaxies series, scheduled for release in 2004, will introduce personal starships and starfighters, which can be used for interplanetary travel or space combat. The expansion also promises additional worlds, playable species, non-player characters, new creatures and more! "The staggered release schedule of the space component of the Star Wars Galaxies series will benefit players because they will have time to establish their characters and explore different elements of the core game before we add the space layer," says Rich Vogel, director of development at Sony Online Entertainment's Austin studio. Kenn Hoekstra send out word that he posted an update on the RavenSoft forums giving some more details about what we can expect in 'Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy'. Well, it’s been a while since I last posted. Some people probably don’t know who I am. I am the Executive Producer of SWG. I thought I would give you guys an update on where we are in development.

The client team is busy working on adding more visual effects, polishing and enhancing UI, adding more optimizations to the client, and fixing bugs. The Beta Testers have already seen the results of some of our efforts with a faster frame rate, less hitching as you walk around town, new character system features (such as pitch-pointing weapons in combat, or the soon-to-be-released head-turning towards your look-at target). There’s more to do here, and like art, we’re grateful to have a little time to really polish up the client.

Our current plan is to go to Open Beta in early May. This all depends on how polished we are. I realize lots of you want to play but it is important that we make your play experience an enjoyable one.

LucasArts today announced that Star Wars: The Clone Wars for Xbox Live has gone gold and can be expected in stores April 21st! Star Wars: The Clone Wars is the first LucasArts console game available for play over the Internet and will offer expanded combat action specifically designed for Xbox Live.
