In Dec. 2008, Sony announced that it would lay off 16,000 employees, cut back on investments, close several of its manufacturing plants, and pull out of businesses as it is looking to cut $1.1 billion. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the end of the bad news as Sony has just revised its earning estimates and is now expecting to lose $2.9 billion instead. As a result, it plans further layoffs in electronic, pictures, music and gaming divisions, and it will restructure and close manufacturing plants.

EA's director of government affairs Craig Hagen revealed in an
interview with the Orlando Sentinel that after shuttering a new facility, closing Black Box and various other layoffs, it is continuing its cutbacks. EA is not only prepping Spore: Galactic Adventures, where players' space faring creatures will be able to beam down from their spaceships to explore new planets and earn rewards for completing challenging missions, but is also planning new installments. Spore: Hero Arena (NDS) will follow in the footsteps of its Spore Creatures predecessor, while Spore: Hero will be the first title specifically made for the Wii, and focus on avatar creation and adventuring. Spore: Creature Keeper (PC) is aimed at the younger audience, labeled as a mini-Sims, and will put emphasis on nurturing a new creature.
