The July issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly reveals that the next installment in the Medal of Honor franchise might be leaving its familiar WWII theatre, similar to Activision's Call of Duty series, and the rumor column says we can expect a new MoH title in 2009, set in war-torn Afghanistan. Similarly, 2KGames is said to be reviving Spec Ops, transforming the budget title into an AAA game, set in the Middle Eastern city of Dubai.

One of the few remaining E3 holdouts is id Software, as it first confirmed its attendance, but then retracted the statement. According to
Gamepolitics, the DOOM developer is no longer a member of ESA, making it the third big company to recently leave. Similar to Vivendi/Activision and LucasArts, id Software gave no specifics as to why it decided to leave, but the word is that current ESA President Michael Gallagher is partly to blame, as is a $5 million cancellation fee when E3 moved from LA to Santa Monica last year, which made their ESA membership fee jump from $1 million to $4.5 million.
