Xbox Flashpoint will be using an upgraded engine using some elements from the Flashpoint 2 engine. Graphical elements like vehicle and character models and vegetation have been vastly improved upon and look much smoother and realistic. Codemasters today reveals that Operation Flashpoint 2, the sequel to the internationally acclaimed military action simulator, will feature three different theatres of combat set in environments across Southeast Asia, Central Europe and Africa. The game's mission-based campaigns will take gamers through fictional conflicts based upon authentic events during the years around 1970.

Codemasters today confirms that Operation Flashpoint 2, a true sequel to the million-selling military simulator, has been commissioned. The setting and theme for the game will be revealed at E3, the global games expo (Los Angeles Convention Centre, May 14-16). Operation Flashpoint 2 is in design and development at Bohemia Interactive Studio, the Prague-based creators of the original title, and will launch late in 2004 for PC.

A dedicated edition of the million-selling military simulator Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis is coming to the Xbox video game system from Microsoft. Codemasters will publish a customised Xbox version of the multi-award winning game this autumn. The Xbox edition is being developed by Bohemia Interactive Studio, creators of the original PC title, and will contain the entire original game along with an additional prequel campaign called Resistance.

Operation Flashpoint for personal computers has won universal acclaim for its realistic simulation of military conflict situations on the PC, even to the extent where the game's technology has been adapted for the United States Marine Corps to use as a special combat training application called VBS1 (Virtual BattleField System) and it's now heading to consoles. New weapons, units and civilian transport are provided today for Operation Flashpoint's Resistance fighters with the release of an all-new upgrade. The Operation Flashpoint: Resistance upgrade is freely available from the game's microsite in the Downloads section. Players require the original Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis and the Resistance expansion pack to use the upgrade. Just noticed over at Blue's News that Codemasters has now released the playable demo of Operation Flashpoint: Resistance, available for download from FilePlanet. The download size is unknown as this point, but the demo contains two new missions not included with the retail version of Bohemia's tactical shooter add-on, and "In one you'll play as the commander of an infantry squad and in the other as a member of the squad. Your mission is to neutralise the enemy forces in a small area of the new island." (Thanks Blues)

Bohemia Interactive today released a new (4.86MB) multiplayer test patch v 1.55 "beta" for Operation Flashpoint. The patch has new netcode and some of the Multiplayer features that will be in Resistance. Grab it from Navy Seal here.

With over one million copies shipped of the award-winning Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, Codemasters today confirms details of a dedicated expansion for the PC best seller titled Operation Flashpoint: Resistance. We sure cant resist to get it!

This version 1.42 release mainly addresses about a dozen bugs and also includes a few other minor improvements. Upgrade 3 is required before running this patch. If running version 1.0, or 1.1 of Operation Flashpoint, you will first need to install Upgrade 2. Once you are patched to version 1.2, you can install Upgrade 3. "Thanks Blues for pointing this out!"
