On Feb. 12, 2009, the boards of Eidos and Square Enix reached an agreement on acquisition terms, and on March 27, 2009, 85% of Eidos shareholders gave their approval. Earlier today, a UK Court sanctioned the acquisition, followed by suspension of the Eidos shares on the London Stock Exchange. By tomorrow, Eidos will officially be part of Square Enix.

Earlier this month, Square Enix and Eidos agreed to buyout terms, although approval was required by the shareholders, who were to vote at a meeting that was held earlier today. Today, Eidos and Square Enix announced that the merger was approved by the required majority of shareholders. On April 21-22, Eidos and Square Enix will implement various principal events to prepare for the merger to be official on May 6, pending court approval.

Last month, we reported that Square Enix was making a move to acquire Eidos, with the backing of Eidos' board. Both companies have agreed to the buyout terms, pending approval of the shareholders, which will be put to a vote at a meeting in late March. If all goes well, and the court approves the dates, Eidos shares will be suspended on Apr. 21, with the settlement to be reached on May 6.

Last week we reported that Square Enix and Eidos had reached a preliminary agreement for the Japanese developer/publisher to acquire Eidos. The question was how Warner Bros., which already owns 20% of Eidos, would react. As it turns out WBIE is not going to counter offer, but has instead issued a statement saying it is "supportive," and will vote in favor of the takeover.
