'Daymare: 1998' Launches Kickstarter Campaign, Recruits Resident Evil Devs - Trailer

by Rainier on Feb. 15, 2017 @ 2:41 p.m. PST

Daymare: 1998 is a hardcore survival horror experience inspired by the visual style and the atmosphere evoked by cult movies of the 1990s.

Developed in Unreal Engine 4, Daymare: 1998 is a third person survival horror game with over the shoulder camera, and features high-end graphics, original soundtrack, immersive atmosphere, hardcore survival mechanics and many connections with the beloved old school survival horror games and '90s landmark brands.

Daymare: 1998 boasts the contribution of Capcom's former game artist Satoshi Nakai (Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil Code Veronica) who is currently working on the design of the deadly creatures that will haunt the game!

In the late 90s, the normally peaceful citizens of a small community in northwest America descend into sickening violence.   With enemy designs by the legendary former Capcom designer, Satoshi Nakai, the physical and mental deformations that take place within the community are set to be both terrifying and shocking.

On the day that the Daymare: 1998 Kickstarter (looking for $190,377) begins, Invader Studios is pleased to announce that the legendary Director of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and Planner on the original 1996 Resident Evil, Kazuhiro Aoyama, has agreed to become the ‘Producer Associate’ of Daymare: 1998.

Kazuhiro Aoyama said, “There are many games called “Survival Horror”, but I recommend this game to “genuine oriented people” who prefer fear the old fashioned way.  As an evil friend, I would like to give Invader Studios as much of my burning blood as possible.  As their intense passion and my burning blood react chemically, this will definitely cause Daymare syndrome”

Aoyama-san joins Satoshi Nakai, the enemy designer on Resident Evil: Code Veronica (X) and Creature Sketch Artist on Resident Evil 0, on the Daymare: 1998 team.   Nakai-san joins the team as ‘Enemy Designer’.

Satoshi Nakai said, “I’m really excited about Daymare: 1998. I want to create as many bizarre, creepy and terrifying monsters as possible!”

Invader Studios pledged to bring back the Horror.  Legendary Capcom heroes of the past have pledged to help.  Now it is your turn to pledge.    Invader Studios is very pleased to announce that their Kickstarter Campaign for the up and coming Survival Horror game, Daymare 1998 is now live.

The Kickstarter began today and will last for 30 days, finishing on St Patrick’s Day, the 17th March.  Because Life was Cheaper in ‘98 there are a limited number of very special pledges.   The first 98 people can get the game for a €3 discount and will have the privilege of a Special In Game Outfit, showing the world they are one of the ‘Original ’98.  But don’t worry if you miss that as the next 1998 people can get the game at a €1 discount and have their own special 1998 Outfit.

Finally, Invader Studios is pleased to announce that Akari Kaida, legendary music composer from the original 1996 Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, Onimusha 3: Demon Siege and Okami, is lined up to be the principal composer for Daymare: 1998.   Akari Kaida will join the Invader Studios team as ‘Music Composer’ upon achievement of the “Special Soundtrack” stretch goal.

Kaida-san said, “Nostalgic and New!   It really reminds me of the “fear” I felt in games back in the 90’s.”

The team at Invader Studios said, “It is with great pleasure that today, after months of hard work, we can finally invite you to the page of our Kickstarter campaign.   This is something incredible; collaborating with Kazuhiro Aoyama (Director of Resident Evil 3: Nemisis), Satoshi Nakai (Enemy Designer of the Resident Evil saga) and having as the composer of Daymare: 1998, the legendary Akari Kaida (Composer of the main Capcom titles).  But it’s all thanks to your support if we will have the chance to realize the Survival Horror we want and that every fan deserves”

Key Features:

  • A multi-character "can't-stop-playing" storyline
  • Your favourite survival horror nightmares are back to haunt you! (Limited save points, anyone?)
  • Foes outnumber ammunition, you have been warned!
  • Tons of references to the '90s pop culture and horror movie hat-tips (and a lot of raccoons too...)
  • Original scary, creepy, thrilling, handmade soundtrack

Inspired by the terrifying experiences of  true 1990’s survival horror games, Invader Studios believe their own  take on modern gameplay mechanics fits perfectly with the old school survival horror atmosphere they love.
