by Rainier on April 10, 2019 @ 1:26 a.m. PDT

Indie publisher Good Shepherd Entertainment announced it has acquired a majority stake in Artificer, a new Warsaw based game development studio founded by the core team responsible for Hard West and Phantom Doctrine.

Artificer is already equipped to punch well above its weight class: the team consists of over 30 award winning industry veterans who have previously worked on numerous acclaimed titles including the Call of Juarez and the Dead Island series.

“We envisioned Artificer as a place where accomplished craftsmen may put their love of their work in projects they wholeheartedly believe in and do so in a sustainable fashion. I am tremendously excited to say that we have already built a close-knit team which is hard at work on our first project.” states Kacper Szymczak, Creative Director, Artificer.

Good Shepherd’s investment in the newly formed studio, is part of the company’s commitment to facilitate and support talented development teams while strengthening its position and expanding its publishing activities. Originally established in the Netherlands in 2011 operating under the name Gambitious, Good Shepherd Entertainment became a full featured publisher & financing platform in 2014 with the release of Train Fever, which was the first game successfully published with equity crowdfunding. The Company has since funded and released multiple award- winning original games across all major digital platforms.

“We’ve been impressed by the quality and unique talent present in Poland and we intend to expand Good Shepherd Entertainment’s long-standing presence in the region with our newly formed Artificer relationship.” said Brian Grigsby, CEO, Good Shepherd Entertainment.

“On a professional as well as personal level, I'm very happy that there was an opportunity we could capitalize on. Good Shepherd is a trusted partner, with a fantastic team we know will lend Artificer its strengths, while guaranteeing the studio's independence.” saidBlazej Krakowiak, VP Business and Marketing, Artificer

The newly formed studio intends to apply its philosophy of sustainable and measured development to a wide variety of genres. Initially focusing on a single flagship project, Artificer is already exploring additional opportunities, creative and business alike, to further expand its potential.

Details on Artificer’s first project will be released soon, and Good Shepherd will reveal details on its latest major new video game title scheduled for announcement in early May.
