'Psychonauts 2' (ALL) Definitely Coming In 2021

by Rainier on April 19, 2021 @ 10:21 a.m. PDT

In Psychonauts 2, Raz will realize his dreams and visit the Psychonauts Headquarters as a fully established agent. But when he gets there he finds it's not the perfect place he expected, and he quickly realizes that the Psychonauts need him, more than he needs them...

Psychonauts was released in 2005 to much critical acclaim, and has since become a cult classic, with a huge fan base around the world.

Brain worlds a-plenty, incredible vocal performances from the original cast and awesome celebrities, new powers, and the next chapter in the greatest story of all time await players eager to expand their minds and enjoy some old-school platforming action.

Following directly on from the first game and Psychonauts and the Rhombus of Ruin, psychic wunderkind Razputin “Raz” Aquato has officially joined his idols, the Psychonauts, but soon finds that all is not right with the international psychic spy agency. There’s a mole in the ranks, and if they’re not uncovered soon it could lead to the release of a dangerous psychic monster from the depths!

He runs away from the circus and breaks into their secret training facility, Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp. As he begins his training by psychically delving inside the consciousnesses of his tutors and those around him, he realizes all is not as it seems, and soon embarks upon a psychic odyssey through a variety of levels set inside the minds of misfits, monsters, and madmen.

Announced in 2015, Psychonauts 2 has been long in the making, delayed multiple times, but Double Fine revealed today that it is def. coming in 2021.

And yes, Psychonauts 2 is this year and yes I've been mentioning that here and elsewhere for a while but no I can't tell you when because someone from THE COMPANY would arrange for a mysterious "cactus accident" to happen to me...

But it is real. It is playable. It is coming.

Using his ability to leap into minds, Raz works with the brain’s owner (a mysterious ball of light voiced by Jack Black) in order to reawaken their lost senses.

Their journey is a colorful trip through psychedelic concert halls and the strange backstages of the mind. Psychonauts 2 contains all the jumping and platforming fans crave but adds new psychic powers for some added zing! In this new level, Raz’s companion teaches him the mind-bending “Time Bubble” ability, which can be used to slow down moving objects or obstacles to create makeshift platforms, or freeze fast moving enemies long enough to PSI-Blast them into oblivion. There’s no need to rush when you literally control time and space! Well, except for that whole part where the villains might summon a world-devouring monster…

Psychonauts 2 is packed with mind-bendy worlds, memorable characters, and Tim Schafer’s characteristic mix of snappy comedy and grand adventure. That can mean slinking around a dark world full of demonic teeth or going on a buddy-comedy road-trip to awaken lost senses. When the only limit is your imagination, there’s a little bit of everything and anything!

The sequel will be developed in house by Double Fine Productions, with Tim Schafer as project lead, alongside original collaborators including co-writer Erik Wolpaw, artists Peter Chan, Scott Campbell, and Nathan Stapley, composer Peter McConnell, voice actors Richard Horvitz and Nicki Rapp, and voice director Khris Brown.

Psychonauts 2 is coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Game Pass, PC, Mac, Linux, and PS4 in 2021.
