'Batora: Lost Haven' Publishing Rights Picked Up By Team 17 - Trailer

by Rainier on June 24, 2021 @ 8:43 a.m. PDT

Built on a rich action-RPG foundation, Batora follows Avril — a regular 16-year old girl, not a natural-born hero — as she realizes, after losing everything she cares for, that she is the only one who can save a dying planet Earth from oblivion.

This is how her interplanetary adventure starts: along this journey she will visit colorful and mysterious planets and meet intriguing characters - and she will learn that every choice has a consequence.

Far from a standard aRPG game, Batora: Lost Haven is based on the duality between mind and body, introducing a new game mechanic that challenges players to find the perfect balance between the two - losing sight of one could mean that their journey is over. Batora doesn't present the hero's journey in black or white, good or evil: there are decisions and there are their consequences. Every single decision Avril makes will turn out to be important, often even life-changing, for the characters she meets or the places she visits.

Team17 announced it will be releasing Stormind Games’ cosmic action-RPG, Batora: Lost Haven, on consoles and PC in 2022.

Registration for the alpha test (PC only) is open now at the official website and closes on July 20, 2021, with the test scheduled to run for 2 weeks from July 21, 2021, to Aug. 4, 2021.

With this alpha, players can get familiar with the game's combination of aRPG mechanics and intense narrative while they make their way into Batora: Lost Haven's colorful and diverse environments, they will have to make moral decisions that will change the course of events, shaping the character's personality as they develop as either a Defender or a Conqueror, and also learn to use the game's "Nature Switch" to balance their physical and mental powers, which they can use both to fight and solve puzzles.

“Following our big announcement at E3 of the upcoming PC alpha next month, we’re thrilled to confirm we’ve found our publishing partner for Batora: Lost Haven. Team17’s heritage as an independent games label is incredibly strong, so it’s a natural fit as we look towards next year’s multiplatform launch.” said Stormind Games CEO and Co-Founder Antonio Cannata.

“We’re really excited to play a part of Batora: Lost Haven’s interplanetary journey with Stormind Games; it’s an engaging narrative that really leans into eye-catching 1950s sci-fi inspired visuals and unique mechanics that will make the game a memorable experience. We’re eager to see the response of action-RPG fans to next month’s alpha, which will offer a tantalising taster of what’s to come in the full game when it launches in 2022,” added Team17 Head of External Production Christie Sandy.

The duality of the lead character is also one of Batora's most unique features with players required to use the "switch mechanic" to alternate between their physical and mental states. Learning the right time to strike or not be struck and in which state to do so will present a considerable challenge to even the most experienced players.

Key Features:

  • Deep, branching narrative: Unravel an interplanetary journey as the only person who can save Earth from its impending oblivion
  • Unique ‘Nature Switch’ mechanic: Balance mental and physical powers to overcome the hostile environments and enemies as the story unfolds
  • Reactive, non-linear storytelling: Your choices will change the fate of the universe and of the creatures that inhabit it. Will you be a Conqueror or Defender?
  • Beautiful retro sci-fi art style: Enjoy colourful and fascinating planets and hand-painted visuals inspired by the retro science fiction art styles of the 1950s

Batora: Lost Haven is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam) in 2022.
