'Martha is Dead' Details Story, Soundtrack By Danish Underwater Band Between Music - Trailer

by Rainier on June 12, 2021 @ 6:35 p.m. PDT

Martha Is Dead is a dark psychological thriller with rich narrative, lore and real-world locations.

Martha is Dead continues LKA’s signature style of deep multi-layered narratives combined with real locations and a mix of history, superstition and psychological distress. LKAs expertise for delving into complex and riveting subject matter that borrows from both fact and fiction helps to distinguish its development pedigree and passion.

Set in Tuscany, 1944, south of the Gothic line, as conflict intensifies between German and Allied forces, the desecrated body of a woman is found drowned. Her twin sister, the young daughter of a German soldier must deal with the acute trauma of loss, while the truth of the brutal murder is shrouded by mysterious folklore and the extreme horror of war draws ever closer.

With photo-realism at its core and using advanced texturing techniques alongside full support for real-time ray tracing, Martha is Dead is built in Unreal Engine 4 and is set once again to blur the boundary between gaming and reality by bringing human stories to life; amplified with high-level production, cinematic visuals and haunting audio.

This story trailer depicts the beautiful relationship between Giulia and her Nanny, and the loving way which the child cajoles the nanny in order to tell the tale of ‘The White Lady’ - a drowned maiden, murdered in a fit of jealousy by her lover who now stalks the shores of the lake where she suffered in her final moments, looking to drag others towards a similar demise.

What makes this trailer even more chilling: This particularly savage story is based on a real-life Italian legend, passed down from one generation to the next in much the same manner as in the trailer.

Wired Productions and LKA also revealed play will be accompanied by a progressive, haunting soundtrack, in part from Danish group Between Music, with music created by performers playing custom made instruments whilst the band is completely submerged underwater - a suitably sodden setting for Martha Is Dead.

It’s a process that delivers a powerful yet dark composition and a truly unique score - one bolstered further by the appearance of talented Italian composer Francesca Messina – AKA Femina Ridens- whose tracks feature avintage style that compliments Martha Is Dead’s 1940s setting - and Aseptic Void, who also composed for The Town of Light.

“We’re excited to be able to reveal more and more of Martha is Dead as we head towards launch, with this latest trailer helping to set the tone for what’s to come,” offersLuca Dalco, Founder & Director, LKA. “The soundtrack is also incredibly important when it comes to supporting play with the right atmosphere, and we can’t wait for gamers to engage all of their senses with play.”

Fans of first-person thrillers will experience a unique opportunity through Martha is Dead, as the game offers a chilling story seen through the eyes of an innocent young woman who is on a mission to find out the truth. Along the way, she will encounter situations and discover things no one should have to… mortal death was the easy path compared to this one marred by mental and emotional distress which lingers on.

Martha is Dead is in development for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC, scheduled for 2021.
