The holdout was due to licensing issues, which have now been resolved.

PSP v5.00 will enable you to browse the PlayStation Store and download games whenever you're at a Wi-Fi hotspot.

SCEA has teamed up with online video community YouTube, to create a PlayStation branded channel that delivers exclusive video content to the worldwide PlayStation community. In the future, users will be able to take advantage of the PS3’s interface to create game mode videos, starting with LittleBigPlanet.

SCEA is expanding the availability of its PlayStation Network Cards, which can be used to purchase content for PS3 and PSP systems, to additional major retailers such as Walmart, Best Buy, select Sam’s Club outlets in October 2008, and at Barnes & Noble College Bookstores locations in November 2008.

Sony has released a new v2.43 PS3 firmware update, but is specific to the Japan region, and only PS3 users there will be required to install the update. PS3 users in all other regions will not be prompted to download v2.43. However, if you manually initiate a firmware update by clicking on “System Update” under the XMB’s Settings icon, the v2.43 update will be available, regardless of where you are located, and will it will not cause any issues with your system or add any new functionality.

Last month SCEA announced a revamped PSP model with a higher quality LCD screens for better picture quality. Shortly thereafter rumors claimed that because of the enhanced screen the battery life would be shorter than the previous PSP model. Sony issued a statement saying that those rumors are incorrect, and while the new PSP screen draws a little more power, its engineers worked to reduce the power consumption of the overall system to even things out.

SCEE will publish and distribute three MMOs developed by SOE for PS3 as well as the PC edition throughout the PAL territories, starting with Free Realms, DC Universe and The Agency.

Equipped with a variety of unique weapons and gadgets, players will hunt, fight and capture a wide range of supernatural villains in a funny and frightening battle to save New York City from its latest paranormal plague. According to a Sony Pictures spokesperson it is working with Activision Blizzard “to evaluate various options surrounding the release of the Ghostbusters video game, to potentially coincide with the 25th anniversary of the original film in ‘09.”

Sony announced the launch of a new video delivery service in the U.S. for the PlayStation 3 and PSP systems. Consumers will have the ability to download full-length movies and television shows through the PlayStation Store on PlayStation Network. The service will offer nearly 300 full-length movies and more than 1,200 TV episodes.

At Sony's press briefing, they revealed that the 80GB model of the PlayStation 3 console will become available this Sept. and retail for $399. Sony also announced a Ratchet and Clank Size Matters PSP Entertainment Pack, a Lego Batman PlayStation 2 Pack, and the launch of a PS3 Greatest Hits program for PS3 this July.

Sony announced the availability of the v4.05 system software update for PSP adding new visualizers for music playback, among other features.

Nothing really new in this minor update, basically only optimizing the new features, such as display of search results under Internet Search has been improved for certain languages, and playback of video content under Video has been improved for certain file types.

As promised, Sony has released the latest v2.36 PS3 firmware update, improving system stability when playing certain PlayStation titles. At the same time Sony also made available a new firmware update for the PSP, bringing it to v4.00 and adding Google Internet search directly to the XMB interface, and the ability to change viewing speed during playback of videos stored on your Memory Stick PRO Duo.
