Film and Video Game production company Union Entertainment announced today the procurement of development financing for the company’s video game division. Backed by Korean software company Digital Tetra, the fund provides $1.2 million for Union to develop new games to a playable demo level before shopping the titles to game publishers. The deal was brokered by Clemensen Capital.

Novalogic has released a demo for their upcoming FPS multiplayer game Joint Operations. the demo features one 'Twin Island' multiplayer map with day and night settings. The demo will be playable over the NovaWorld Games Network and via LAN. In the latest Sierra newsletter Massive Ent.'s Lead Game Designer Henrik Sebring revealed that we can expect a demo for their upcoming 3D RTS game Ground Control II: Operation Exodus. A specific date has not been mentioned bit would/should be "before" Ground Control II: Operation Exodus is ecpted in stores, which so far is still set for July 2004. Of course we will have the demo on our fileservers as soon as it's available...

WizardWorks better know for its record selling Deer Hunter series has apparaently been shut down by Atari in order to streamline operations. WizardWorls was purchased by GT Interactive in the mid 90's, which on its own was then purchased by Infogrames, now Atari. The closure affected 19 people who will most likely be transferred to other Atari departments. No titles have been cancelled or dropped as the Minneapolis Studio (internal Atari name for WizardWorks) had no dedicated titles in production, a0nd publishing responsibilities have been transferred to another office. Previously, Atari also closed their Hunt Valley studio, and most recently Legend Entertainment. You can read the full story over at

Capcom today announced a national marketing campaign to support the upcoming release of Resident Evil Outbreak for the PS2. For the first time ever, Capcom will be running an in-theater campaign where spots will run during the month of April to an estimated audience of more than 5 million movie goers. There will also be an extensive television marketing campaign, which begins on March 29th and runs throughout April, generating more than 57 million consumer impressions. These ads will support the overall marketing initiative, which includes print and online advertising, an online street team, promotional and retail partnerships, as well as several consumer launch events.

Electronic Arts today announced that it has signed a European distribution agreement with KOEI Co., Ltd for the upcoming tactical action game, Samurai Warriors. Samurai Warriors is developed by Koei's internal development team Omega Force, the studio behind the award-winning Dynasty Warriors series, and is planned for release on the PlayStation2 in June 2004.

JoWooD Productions Software AG will handle worldwide publishing and marketing of videogames based on MGM Television's hit science-fiction series, "Stargate SG-1." As part of the agreement, Australian developer Perception PTY Ltd. will develop videogames based on the current TV series "Stargate SG-1," and any spin-off series such as the upcoming "Stargate: Atlantis." Amid surging Xbox sales and global business expansion, Robbie Bach, senior vice president of Microsoft and head of Microsoft’s Home and Entertainment Division, today announced a number of new executive appointments. Shane Kim, currently acting general manager of Microsoft Game Studios, has been named permanently to that position and will report to Peter Moore, corporate vice president. To create additional synergies between game content and marketing, Moore, in turn has been named head of worldwide content and marketing for Microsoft games and game products. Bach also announced that Mitchell (Mitch) Koch, corporate vice president, will lead Microsoft’s global retail sales efforts.

Publisher Strategy First Inc. and developer Stardock announced today that a new expansion pack for the award-winning turn-based strategy game Galactic Civilizations will be released in Q2 2004.
