Vivendi Universal Games announced today that development of its upcoming PC real-time strategy game based on J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy The Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring (War of the Ring) has been completed. In War of the Ring, massive battles erupt as the Men, Elves, Dwarves, and Hobbits of Middle-earth battle Sauron's minions. Players can choose to play as the forces of good and valiantly fight for the One Ring's destruction or assume command of the forces of evil to claim control over Middle-earth forever.

Electronic Arts announced today the North American release of The Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers video game for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system and revealed plans to bring this highly-anticipated title to the Xbox video game system from Microsoft and Nintendo GameCube later this year. The Nintendo Game Boy Advance version will ship on Tuesday, November 12.

Vivendi Universal Publishing announced today several new games as part of its Games division's long-term agreement with Tolkien Enterprises to develop interactive entertainment based on J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit." The new titles include The Lord of the Rings: Middle-earth Online, an Online Massively Multi-player role playing game, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Ring, a real time strategy game, and additional PC and console titles based on Tolkien's "The Two Towers" and "The Return of the King."

The first screens from Vivendi's Lord of the Rings Game based on the books is now available.. It's Gamer's Voice that got this first screen posted up and the game is described as follows:
The Fellowship of the Ring is an Xbox title slated for release in fourth quarter 2002 and is being developed by Seattle-based WXP, Inc. The game is a third-person action title in which gamers play as three members of the fellowship, Frodo, Aragorn and Gandalf, on a journey from the Shire to the depths of Moria and all the way to the River Anduin.
