Over the next month or so there will be a couple of interesting releases via Steam, in addition to the upcoming Counter-Strike map de_compound. First, Valve will be releasing an update to Half-Life 2: Deathmatch that will include the Slam, Stunstick, and the Crowbar.

Valve's
SteamPowered website has been updated with details regarding yet another update for its Source SDK which adds SDK bot sample code, source files for HL2 SP maps, interface plugin to add bots to mods, bspzip tool, and fixed resource leak. Restart Steam to get the latest update. The HL2: DM level design contest is over, the winners maps will be included in the HL2: Deathmatch release, as well as two new weapons (Slam and Stunstick). Later this week there will be an update to the Half-Life SDK this week which most notably will include source files for six Half-Life 2 maps.

Busy evening for the people over at Valve as today it disabled more than 30,000 Steam accounts (a few weeks ago Valve already
banned 20,000) which had been used to try to illegally gain access to Valve games without a valid purchase. A new
Steam update has been released fixing some some stuttering issues with Half-Life 2 and also addressing missing models when running the Counterstrike Source Video Stress Test.

The official Steam website has word that an update for CS:CZ and HLTV has just been released. Steam will update itself automatically when you restart. CZ servers will need to be restarted in order to run this update. CS:CZ adds 2 new maps (de_truth_cz & de_corruption_cz), as well as a slew of game tweaks but also three previously unreleased 'Deleted Scenes' missions Fastline, Sandstorm, and Pipe Dream.

Fueled by a highly touted lineup of new game titles and the growing popularity of its unified online gaming service, Microsoft Xbox is outpacing the industry as the only next-generation console to continuously demonstrate positive market share growth on a year-over-year basis (August 2002 to August 2003). According to NPD Group Inc., (NPD Funworld TRSTS, August 2003), sales of the Xbox console increased 6 percent from this same period last year, while the Sony's PlayStation 2 dropped 36 percent and Nintendo's GameCube fell 22 percent. With the new release on Wednesday, Valve plans to reset the account database. Any future registrations will have to be allied to a genuine CD-key, drawing to a close the honeymoon period of free Half-Life, CS and mod access - not to mention Half-Life 2 movie releases - for the two or three people still without a copy of the original game.
