In an effort to combat cheating issues in multiplayer online play, Ubisoft will be incorporating Punkbuster software into Rainbow Six 3: Athena Sword.Punkbuster is a client/server product that detects cheats/hacks on end-user systems and reports their use to administrators and, potentially, takes action against the violating player by kicking and/or banning them from the server. The exact cheats that will be detected for Athena Sword have not been announced for security purposes. However, Punkbuster for Athena Sword will have ongoing support for quite some time as new versions that deal with new cheats and hacks are released periodically.

As was the case with the Raven Shield v1.3 patch, it seems that another glitch has made its way in v1.4. "An incompatibility has been found regarding the unlocking of custom missions between campaigns saved prior to version 1.4 and those saved with version 1.4. This problem prevents players from playing solo maps that they have unlocked in campaign mode with a version prior to 1.4 in the custom mission mode in version 1.4. It doesn't affect multiplayer maps or multiplayer play. There is no workaround but a fix has already been found and will be included in patch 1.41, due out next Tuesday. New campaigns played with version 1.4 will unlock maps without a problem and the maps will be available in custom missions. Campaigns saved with a version prior to 1.4 will continue working in version 1.4." (thanks Blues)

The official Ravenshield website has been updated with word on an upcoming patch for their tactical, squad based FPS Ravenshield. " We've added the finishing touches to 1.31 and it is confirmed that the patch will be made available Tuesday, July 29th. Initially, the release date was set for this week but due to an addition to the patch (Windows SA Server support), it was delayed until next week" (thanks Bluesnews). Patch 1.31 will only include the arm patches fix that that caused server connection problems. Testing on it will begin next week and public release is expected in 3 weeks. Tony Ray, from Even Balance, is working closely with the development team in integrating Punkbuster and everything is going smoothly. The SA servers (windows - linux) will hit testing in a few days. Exact release on this is uncertain right now. What can you expect in the future? Patch 1.4 is being worked on and is scheduled for release at the end of August. This is shaping up to be the largest patch thus far in terms of bug fixes and improvements. Plans for an official MOD and release of an SDK are underway (expect both to come later).

The official Ravenshield website has been updated with some information about the problem with their v1.3 patch and what to expect for the next (v1.4) patch. Patch 1.3: Two major issues were identified and reproduced after the patch was released: A server crash related to the arm patches & non-working CD-keys. Both problems are being investigated, and a fix will be issued as soon as possible. Patch 1.4: Development is progressing well on patch 1.4. Many bugs related to the netcode have been solved, including reticule lock, zoom staying active, a grenade bug, and players getting stuck in ladders. Some game improvements have also been made, including removal of trigger lag. Players will automatically switch back to his/her primary weapon after throwing their last grenade or other disposable weapon (thanks Bluesnews).
