Back in 2006 Texas based Anascape Ltd. filed suit against Nintendo and Microsoft for infringing on one of its patents (3D controller with vibration) it had filed in 2000. While Microsoft immediately settled out of court, Nintendo decided to go all the way and fight the lawsuit. Now Federal court has ruled in favor of Anascape and awarded it a settlement of $21 million. Nintendo plans to file an appeal in order to reduce the penalty.

Nintendo's new WiiWare service tears down limitations for how developers create games – and the way people receive them. Starting today, Wii owners with an Internet connection can download new, creative games from a wide range of developers, from large publishers to indie shops.

To celebrate today’s launch of the new WiiWare downloadable game service for Wii, there will be no Virtual Console games added today. Nintendo announced record revenues and profits for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2008, sales rocketed 73% compared to last year, racking in 1.67 trillion yen in sales and making a profit of 487 billion yen, a 115.6 % increase.

Pokémon USA announced the results of recent anti-piracy actions taken in cooperation with Nintendo of America Inc. to combat the production and distribution of counterfeit Pokémon Trading Card Game products.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is Nintendo's latest incarnation in the popular Super Smash Bros. series of titles, featuring all-new characters ranging from Kirby and Wario to Samus and even Metal Gear Solid's Snake. After just one week on store shelves, SSBB has become the fastest-selling game in Nintendo of America's history, having sold more than 1.4 million, including more than 874,000 on launch day alone.

Game Developer magazine and Game Developer Research division announced a new study ranking the top 50 game development studios worldwide featuring a first-ever holistic view of the top game developers, using both sales and reputation data.

After the ESA filed for assistance earlier this week, Nintendo of America has asked the U.S. Trade Representative to encourage specific governments around the world to take a more aggressive stance to combat piracy of Nintendo video games and systems.

Nintendo announced that it is adding a cool new color scheme to its NDS wardrobe on Feb. 10. Cobalt/Black marks the seventh color in the Nintendo DS Lite palette. It joins Polar White, Coral Pink, Onyx, Crimson/Black and the limited-edition Gold and Metallic Rose. The latest NPD numbers confirm that the Wii is still one of the hottest items on the market, with nearly 1 million units sold last month alone. During a conference call earlier today, NoA president Reggie Fils-Aime revealed that large Wii shipments (20+ units) will be coming in this weekend at several retail stores such as Best Buy, Circuit City, Target and Wal-Mart. People who still can't find a Wii will be able to get a raincheck at GameStop, redeemable in Jan. 2008.

Nintendo has launched its Wii Points Card Shop, where Club Nintendo members can swap Stars (from purchased games) for Wii Points Cards, which contain a code that you can enter in the Wii Shop Channel on your Wii. This will add Wii Points to your Wii Shop Channel account, which in turn allows you to spend on such items as games for Virtual Console or Wii Software.

In the first week of the 2007 holiday shopping season, Nintendo has sold more than 653,000 NDS systems, 350,000 Wii units and tons of games and accessories throughout the United States.

Starting Nov. 23, Nintendo gives the holiday season a fresh blast of color with the launch of two special-edition NDS bundles. The new Gold edition comes with The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, while the Metallic Rose edition comes with the "Best Friends" version of Nintendogs.

On Oct. 8th, Hong Kong court ordered the raid of Supreme Factory Limited facilities. During a three-day period, Nintendo seized more than 10,000 NDS/Wii game copying devices and mod chips used to unlawfully copy and play games. The mod chips allow the play of pirated Wii discs or illegal copies of Nintendo games downloaded from the Internet.

Nintendo revealed its holiday lineup of titles, with no less than 218 titles for Wii and NDS, ranging from Super Mario Galaxy (Wii), Flash Focus: Vision Training in Minutes a Day (NDS), to Manhunt 2 (Wii) and the previously unannounced Assassin's Creed (NDS).

In addition to the Monster Hunter 3, and Super Smash Bros Brawl featuring Sonic announcements, Nintendo revealed a few other tidbits. Super Mario Stadium Baseball for the Wii, Fire Emblem DS, a new DS Demo Channel will be added to the Wii, although no details on what exactly it will offer. Mario Kart Wii will include motorbikes and come bundled with the Wii Steering Wheel. New Wiiware titles such as Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Bomberman, Pokemon Farm (import Diamond/Pearl monsters from your NDS) and Doctor Mario Wii.
