The Western Regional Qualifiers for the ATI/AMD Cyber X Games, the world's largest computer gaming tournament, will be held Friday - Sunday, Dec. 5 - 7 at the LAX Renaissance Hotel.
The best-of-the-best game players will battle it in a marathon of 54 straight hours of hectic double elimination rounds in Counter-Strike, Unreal Tournament 2003 and America's Army. The World Cyber Games officially announced today that San Francisco will be the WCG Grand Final host city for the year 2004, taking the world’s largest e-sports event to a new level of global excitement and interest. The announcement was made at a press conference in San Francisco City Hall on September 3. Mr. Il-hyung Chang attended the press conference on behalf of Mr. Jong-yong Yun, co-chairman of the World Cyber Games Committee (WCGC), along with Mayor Willie L. This weekend’s tournament will feature StarCraft: Brood War on Saturday, July 26th, and Age of Mythology and FIFA Soccer 2003 on Sunday, July 27th. Check in for semi-final rounds is at 10:30am and the games begin promptly at 11:00am. This weekend’s last group of semi-finalists will join previous winners at the World Cyber Games U.S. Finals in Los Angeles in August. The United Cyber Games Association (UCGA) today announced a series of over 400 qualifying events around the United States to kick off the American portion of the Samsung World Cyber Games (WCG), the world's largest e-sports competition. Teaming with sponsors Samsung, CompUSA's game fixx, and NVIDIA, the World Cyber Games USA will bring thrilling competitions closer to all of America's 140 million gamers by holding its qualifying and semifinal competitions at 20 CompUSA locations across the country from April through July 2003. The World Cyber Games is the biggest international game event, where the gamers selected through national preliminaries pit their skills against others for their countries. Similar to the Olympics, the World Cyber Games is a competition for the honor of countries, and citizenship of the pertinent country is required to participate in it.
