The fourth title in the Metal Slug series joins the Xbox Live Arcade library as Metal Slug 3 arrives this Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 9:00 a.m. GMT (2:00 a.m. PST). An update of the original arcade version, Metal Slug 3 is a run-and-gun video game updated with HD graphics and now features co-op multiplayer over Xbox Live.

SNK announced today that the company will develop games for Nintendo's Wii and for the Nintendo DS, starting with Metal Slug Anthology and SNK VS Capcom Card Fighters DS.

Since its initial revelation at the TGS 2004, SNK Playmore's Metal Slug 3D has not really been heard of. For its 10th anniversary, Metal Slug is going to try and make the jump to 3D with an all new adventure. You will be able to choose from 4 characters, and the game will allow you to customize your own weapons with items you find along your way.

While there has been any official announcement yet, at last week's GDC SNK revealed that, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the franchise, it is bringing Metal Slug to the PSP. As the Metal Slug Collection title indicates this will not be an all new product but rather a compilation of Metal Slug 1 through 5, including Metal Slug X. Metal Slug Collection will be a port of the classic arcade titles and will feature 2 player coop.

SNK PLAYMORE announced today that it has shipped a Metal Slug 4 & 5 bundle pack for the PS2 to retailers across North America. The Metal Slug 4 & 5 bundle pack has a suggested retail price of $39.99.

Metal Slug has been around for seemingly ages. SNK's little franchise, a wonderful little action game, first impressed gamers on the Neo-Geo, but has since visited other consoles, including the Xbox and PS2; and, in its short lifespan, the Neo-Geo Pocket Color. November 2004 we saw the first Metal Slug on GBA in the Advanced version, some mechanics were changed, no blood and while the game was still great, it wasn't true port from the original game. While no specific details were disclosed yet, SNK's release schedule show it will be be bringing Metal Slug 1 to the GBA, expected winter 2005.

SNK Playmore will be releasing its popular 2D platform shooter Metal Slug 4 and Metal Slug 5 as a double-pack on the Xbox in North America. While it is expected to ship mid April 2005, no specific information is available at this point, but at least we got some screens to show for.

Metal Slug Advance will feature five, all-new, action-packed missions plus diverse areas and rugged terrain including subterranean dungeons such as mysterious ruins, limestone caverns, and lava zones. As an added bonus, Metal Slug Advance will feature 100 different METAL SLUG E-cards to enhance player's abilities and assist them in the completion of their missions.
