Late last year German based developer/publisher 10tacle announced it was acquiring The Games Company, but since there have been all sorts of financial trouble which led to both companies agreeing to not realize the intended takeover. From now on TGC again acts an autonomous and independent developer and marketer of computer and video games.

Universal Studios has signed a deal with Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski to turn Take Two's BioShock into a film, while John Logan, known for Gladiator and The Aviator, is in talks to produce the screenplay. Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick said the deal is structured in a way so that it won't end up in a last-minute backing out, like the Halo movie deal.

Activision's Q4 and fiscal year 2008 result reveals its 16th consecutive year of revenue growth with an increase of 92% compared to last year, mainly driven by Call of Duty 4, Guitar Hero III, Spider-Man 3, Shrek The Third and Transformers. The subsequent conference call revealed that CoD 5 will also be coming to the Wii/PS2 and set in a 'new military theater.' Apart from a standalone game, Guitar Hero On Tour will also be bundled with the NDS according to Activision president Mike Griffith who also teased by saying that the company is about two weeks away from making a big announcement in regard to the next installment in the console edition, which will be a "leap forward." The New James Bond, expected this fall, will be powered by the CoD4 engine.

rolled out new PlayStation Store content, starting with the release of Capcom's Rocketmen: Axis of Evil ($9.99), 'Encore' addon for PixelJunk Monsters ($5.99), Guitar Hero III: Muse Track Pack ($6.25), Rock Band Scene Pack ($1.99/$5.49). Also available are a demos for Ubisoft's Haze (single-player/4 player co-op), Codemasters' racer GRID and Vivendi's The Bourne Conspiracy Demo. The FTC conducted a survey with 13-to-16-year-old undercover shoppers to collect data about the extent to which retailers prevent unaccompanied children from buying tickets to M- or R-rated movies, DVDs, video games, and music CDs. The results shows that 20% of underage teenage shoppers were able to buy M-rated video games, down from 42% in 2006.
