In an
interview with Game Informer magazine, Castlevania series creator Koji Igarashi revealed he is working on a new 2D installment for the NDS. The next console iteration might be Xbox 360 exclusive however, saying "I think the Xbox 360 would be the best platform for the U.S. market. The U.S. market is the biggest market for the Castlevania series, so I will give the first priority to the U.S. market."

It's been
quiet for a few months surrounding the Castlevania movie, but word has trickled out that
Sylvain White, known for Ronin and most recently Stomp the Yard, has been set to direct a live-action adaptation of Konami's vampire videogame Castlevania. Originally scripted by AvP's Paul W.S. Anderson it will get a rewrite by White, and be produced by Crystal Sky's Steven Paul and Benedict Carver, with Anderson and Jeremy Bolt. Scheduled for late 2008, shooting will commence late fall in South Africa and Romania.

The September issue of EGM claims that Konami's classic PSOne RPG title Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, known for its nonlinear level design, may be making an appearance on Xbox Live Arcade. Rumors are that the 9 years old SOTN, scheduled for Q1 2007, is around 480mb, which might indicate that Microsoft has eased the initial 50mb restrictions for XBLA titles.

Three-dimensional Castlevania games have always been a bit lackluster than their 2-D counterparts. While Symphonia of the Night or Dawn of Sorrow are considered among the best games on their respective systems, Lament of Innocence and Castlevania: 64 are generally held to be mediocre at best and borderline unplayable at worst. There's just something about the trip into 3-D that makes Castlevania lose its magic. Perhaps this strange curse is what made Konami decide to make the first Wii Castlevania title into something completely different. Castlevania: Judgment
