It seems Activision is going to be revamping some of its most celebrated franchises, as a
listing on the ESRB has popped up revealing that id Software's original Wolfenstein 3D is headed to Xbox 360 and PS3, while
the European ratings body, PEGI, specifically lists Call of Duty as coming to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. No further details are available as to whether these classics will get polished up or just released as they were, but both are most likely to promote the latest installments in their respective franchises.

E3 - Post - E3 2009
Genre: First-Person Shooter
Publisher: Activision
Developer: Raven Software
Release Date: August 13, 2009
If there is one game that we have to thank for first-person shooters, it is Wolfenstein 3D. Despite being by any modern standards an extremely archaic game, it is the first FPS of any note, and it introduced a lot of the staples of the genre in some form or another, from secret rooms to the never-ending fun of fighting supernatural Nazi creations. While the franchise never quite reached the same popularity as Doom, the original Wolfenstein 3D is still a fondly remembered game.

A nice Sunday surprise has popped up, as apparently id Software's Todd Hollenshead has revealed on Pulse (the G4Tech TV show) that a new Wolfenstein title is in the works by an "outside" studio. Take it with a grain of salt, but apparently
people confirmed that they saw the interview, and you can
download a sound recording of the aforementioned statement. It's interesting to note that id Software's CEO says that internally, they will be working on an all-new IP title, but it is safe to assume that whoever makes the new Wolfenstein title will most likely be using id's DOOM 3 engine.
