Gears of War is an action game where hero Marcus Fenix is rescued from prison by a small group of elite soldiers to save planet Sera from an invasion of aliens known as the Locust. Coming off the recent The Dark Knight success, Legendary Pictures has jumped on the Gears of War train to
co-finance/produce the project. The Gears of War movie was
picked up by New Line Cinema last year, said to be
directed by Die Hard 4's Len Wiseman, and currently
scheduled for 2010.

Back in early 2007 New Line Cinema (now a unit of Warner Bros.) acquired the movie rights to Epic's action game Gears of War, to be adapted by Stuart Beattie and produced by Temple Hill Entertainment.
Twilight producer Wyck Godfrey revealed that the script was ready and the movie was scheduled for summer 2010 with a director about to be attached. According to
Variety that turns out to be Die Hard 4 helmer Len Wiseman, who previously did Underworld (and sequel). Wiseman is set to make a new draft of the film's screenplay with The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift screenwriter Chris Morgan.

Microsoft will re-release a 2-disc retail version of Gears of War, which will include previously released multiplayer map packs, the Annex game mode, the ability to earn up to eight additional multiplayer Achievements worth 250 Gamerscore, and a taste of Gears of War 2 through trailers and other extras. The latest GameInformer has new info on Epic's Gears of War 2. From the GDC 08 trailer we saw the UE3 engine moved from a handful of Locust on screen to hundreds, and the elusive Brumak from the original will be present, but so will even larger creatures making the "Brumak look like a baby panda bear." The fight is being taken to the Locust so expect expansive, multi path, and prettier underground locales, where you will be assisted by 4 new characters (Tai Kaliso, leader of the COG forces Chairman Prescott, Dizzy, the driver of a new vehicle; and Dom's wife Maria Santiago, narrator of the story.) Singleplayer co-op will allow people to play at different difficulty settings when paths split. The cover system has been tweaked to offer better protection, new chainsaw duels have been added, new weapons, achievements, and a War Journal with background story.

While there most likely won't be an official announcement anytime soon,
Gametap revealed that former EA Chicago GM Kudo Tsunoda is now with Microsoft as Project Lead for the new Gears of War game. Tsunoda was recruited by Don Mattrick, formerly at EA Vancouver, where they both worked on the Fight Night series. Mattrick also recently reeled in former Tiburon boss and EA's Vice President of Worldwide Studios John Schappert to run Microsoft's Xbox Live. According to
