Earlier today people reported that certain individuals managed to hack into EA's Battlefield 2 stats server and as a result unlocked all weapons for friends & family. EA responded "All of the changes made will be rolled back in the next couple hours. Users may have to rechoose any unlocks they would have legitimately made in the last day or so as a result of the roll-back, but no stats should be lost."

Today the first details from the next game in the Splinter Series have been revealed. According to rumors, there will be a PS2 edition available, but no PS3 version. SC4 is situated in 2007 and will take you to various places such as Madrid, Lisbon, Rio de Janeiro, New York and Berlin. There are quite a few new features added to the new title, such as the requirement for Sam Fisher to find food and eat on longer missions, exercising to stay in shape, using a raft in certain missions, and although no specifics were disclosed, co-op mode will return (thanks JeuxFrance). While this info is to be taken with a grain of salt, Splinter Cell 4 is expected on all platforms in March 2006.

Video Game Industry Fights Back Against Politics

The computer and video game industry will file a lawsuit today seeking to prevent implementation of Illinois HB 4023, a bill limiting the sale and rental of computer and video games, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) announced today. Joining in the complaint are the Video Software Dealers Association and the Illinois Retail Merchants Association. In similar cases in St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Washington State, virtually identical bills were struck down.

Microsoft announced today that it would launch its new Xbox 360 console in Japan and Europe in time for the year-end holiday shopping season. Microsoft had already announced plans to launch the console this year in the United States ahead of the holiday season, which begins in late November. It had previously said Japanese and European launches would follow within six weeks. X360 will feature three PowerPC-based microprocessors joined onto one chip to deliver powerful computing and advanced graphics, as well as a detachable 20-gigabyte hard drive and a wireless controller.

Pirates of the XXI Century is a new FPS in the works over at Eastern European developer DioSoft. Not much info is available at this point but Pirates of the XXI Century revolves around modern day sea pirates with action taking place on load, air, sea and even underwater. You will be able to play as either a member of Hong Kong’s triads, modern day pirate or soldier of US Special Forces and have use of about 30 weapons.

EA Takes Over Vivendi's 'Lord of the Rings' Book License

EA has signed a pact with New Line Cinema extending its rights to make games based on The Lord of the Rings franchise using images and actor likenesses from the pic trilogy. In addition, EA has now also signed a deal with with Tolkien Enterprises for J.R.R. Tolkien's literary trilogy, previously in the hands of Vivendi, giving it rights to use events and characters from the books not used in the pics.
