Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 Launch Trailer Wants You To Punch Some Romans

by Rainier on Nov. 27, 2018 @ 9:35 a.m. PST

Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 is an action-adventure game crammed with surprising encounters that parody the greatest icons of the video game world and is awash with wry references to many of the great moments that have marked over 25 years of video game history.

Originally released in 2005 on PS2 and PC, the two famous Gauls take up the challenges set by Julius Caesar in his new amusement park.

Julius Caesar, in another plan to conquer Gaul, builds a theme park called Las Vegum, a parody of Las Vegas. Getafix then swears loyalty to Caesar, and goes to Las Vegum. Asterix and Obelix come to his rescue, with the help of a Roman spy named Sam Shieffer, a reference to Sam Fisher from the Ubisoft Splinter Cell series.

Las Vegum is divided in 6 zones: Lutetia, WCW, LuckSore (Luxour), Little Venetia (parody of Venice), Pirate Island, and SeizeUs Palace.

Challenges are bonus missions focused on fighting (12 in game). But, the challenge is high to reach the gold rank in each of the challenges.

Players will need to keep their eyes peeled to find the many pop culture references hidden in the scenery and dialogue, as throughout the game you will encounter Romans who slightly resemble famous video game heroes Mario (Nintendo), Sonic the Hedgehog (Sega), Crash Bandicoot (Naughty Dog), Rayman (Ubisoft), Pac-Man (Namco) and Ryu (Capcom) appear as frequent enemies.

Also, Lara Croft (Eidos Interactive), named as Lary Craft, appears as a mini-boss.

Two special editions will also be available:

Asterix & Obelix XXL2 Limited Edition, which will include the video game (for PS4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch) as well as three figurines (Asterix, Obelix and Dogmatix).

The Collector Edition ‘these Gauls are crazy!’ (for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions) which will include the video game, a resin figurine and other surprises to be discovered very soon.

Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 will be available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC, as a digital/retail version, starting on November 29th 2018.
