EA's Financial Result Reveals Layoffs, Closures and Delays

EA released its latest financial results, revealing a loss of $195M, compared to last year's profit of $22M. As a result, EA's board approved a reorganization in order to save $25-30M, which unfortunately means layoffs and branch closures, such as its UK office in Chertsey. At the request of EA Mythic's Mark Jacobs, Warhammer Online is facing yet another delay from its original Q1 2008 date. It's been pushed to Q2 2008 (not before April), but EA execs are still excited about the coming holidays and even raised their expectations with heavy hitters such as Crysis, Hellgate: London and RockBand.

PlayStation Store Gets Demos, Downloadable Content and Trailers

SCEA has released several playable demos for upcoming games on the PlayStation Network, EA's NFS ProStreet (906mb) and Sierra's sci-fi shooter TimeShift (479mb). The classic PsOne title Twisted Metal 2 is now playable on PSP/PS3, and there's a slow of downloladable content for The Godfather: Don’s Edition. Game trailer wise there is a ton of stuff to watch like Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Burnout, Beowulf, GT5 Prologue, and a few movie trailers as well.

Later this month Codemasters will release 3 pieces of premium content for the X360, starting with Raising Hell, a singleplayer expansion that introduces hell to the game's 5 kingdoms, followed by The Challenge Pack (7 new maps & 2 game modes), while a free download will finally add split-screen, as well as a new multiplayer map. All of this will be available on PC as part of a Special Edition.

Earlier this year, Pocket Books acquired the rights to publish the novelization of Ubisoft's upcoming action/adventure game Assassin's Creed, but it turns out the deal has been abandoned. Author of the two first novels, Steven Barnes, revealed Ubisoft wanted to remove religious references and have the books vetted by an expert, which "disenchanted" Pocket Books, and the deal died.
