Nintendo announced that in early April 2024, online play and other functionality that uses online communication will end for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U software, including online co-operative play, internet rankings, and data distribution.

Nintendo announced that as of late March 2023, it will no longer be possible to make purchases in Nintendo eShop for the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS systems.

On Jan. 17, a federal court in Dallas ruled that a patent asserted against Nintendo’s Wii Remote was not valid.

Portable classics will start making their way to the Wii U Virtual Console in April, starting with fan favorites such as Metroid Fusion, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3. Additional games will follow every month.
