SCEA announced details of the next PS3 and PSP firmware updates, both coming this month. PS3 v2.50 adds advanced voice chat features for the Official Bluetooth Headset, the ability to capture screenshots in-game, and a more intuitive PlayStation Trophy interface. PSP v5.00 will enable you to browse the PlayStation Store and download games whenever you're at a Wi-Fi hotspot.

While SCEA is working on
a third title in the franchise, and in talks about
a God of War movie, it has been
accused, and sued, for plagiarism by Jonathon Bissoon-Dath and Jennifer Barrette-Herzog who claim God of War is based on their Olympiad screenplay they sent to Sony Pictures back in 2002, three years before the first GoW title appeared on the PS2. While the plantiffs list various obvious similarities between the two projects, then project director David Jaffe says the lawsuit is "inaccurate, incomplete, abstracted and/or misleading."

SCEA's Director of Publisher Relations Michael Shorrock, who works closely with all of the publishers and developers that create games for all PlayStation platforms, has been working closely with Neversoft and Activision, Harmonix and Konami to ensure that PS3 guitars and drum sets will all feature a basic level of gameplay compatibility, meaning Guitar Hero: World Tour’s guitars and drums will work with Rock Band 2 and Konami’s Rock Revolution software.

Earlier today SCEA released the v2.40 PS3 system software update adding in-game XMB access which enables users to connect and communicate with other gamers, as well as giving PS3 users the ability to earn Trophies and tout their accomplishments & skills via profiles with other members of the community. Shortly after its release PS3 owners who updated their console started complaining about their PS3 freezing/locking up. Without explanation the firmware is no longer available.

Trion World Network, founded by Might & Magic creator Jon Van Caneghem, are expanding their team once more. After recently having hired former SOE Executive Director of Development Nicholas Beliaeff, it has now signed SCEA's former Director of Online Technology Glen Van Datta. Trion World is currently working on a cross-platform fantasy themed MMORPG.
