Atari is expanding the gameplay of Unreal II: The Awakening this December with Unreal II: The Awakening ­ Special Edition for the personal computer. The Special Edition package will include the original single-player campaign, first released in February 2003, as well as an all-new multiplayer experience called XMP, or “Expanded Multiplayer.” Developed by Legend Entertainment (an Atari studio) in conjunction with Epic Games, Unreal II: The Awakening is the follow-up to Epic Games’ 1998 smash hit Unreal and incorporates the same story-driven gameplay, cunningly ferocious enemies and nail-biting tension that made the original title a best seller.

After some investigative work Gamespot has noticed that online retailers EBGames and GameStop have both updated their sites with listings for an Xbox version of Legend Entertainment's first-person shooter Unreal II, which was originally released on the PC earlier this year. While EBGames has no additional info, the GameStop listing features some info and a boxshot. Gamespot contacted an Atari representative for comment and they said that no official announcements have been made about Unreal II for the Xbox. To be continued...

I wanted to give you all a quick update about what's happening on the home front. While we Legend guys haven't been posting here as much as we'd like (things are still pretty crazy here), I assure you we have been reading your comments and concerns, and we take them all very seriously.

As you may have read in the forum already, we're planning on releasing a patch sometime soon. It should address a number of the issues that people have raised in these forums. As well, we're going to be releasing a demo, especially targeted at those of you who want to 'try before you buy'. It should be a great benchmark to see how the game runs on your particular system.

In a later post, I'll try to get you some specifics about both of these, but it shouldn't be too long until you've actually got them in your hands.

The official boards for Unreal II is updated with some info regarding an upcoming video demo instead of a real demo for Unreal II. Here you have the cut and past:

As much as we'd like to create a 'true' demo, it's simply not possible. Legend have moved on to other projects and the production of a demo - even from already existing levels would require time and effort that we just don't have. It would then have to go through QA - another organization that is working on other projects and cannot dedicate time to a UII demo. It's all about the allocation of 'assets'.

However, as I mentioned above, we plan to put something out that as you say - will allow people to see what the game looks and plays like without any editing or 'tricks'. Raw gameplay.

It's going to be hard to get this video out before launch (the game will be on shelves on the 4th (USA), 7th (Europe)), but I hope that we have it online before too long. We'll try to spread it as far and wide as we did the UT2003 demo.

NVida today released some new Unreal II - The Awakening screens, showing off the Unreal sequel on the GeForce FX technology. We already knew this a few days ago, but here is the official announcement. Infogrames announces release dates for two of the most highly anticipated sequels in the Unreal family of action games. "Unreal Tournament 2003," who won numerous awards, is poised to deliver non-stop multiplayer action starting this summer. And, "Unreal II," sequel to the blockbuster hit "Unreal," will bring single-player story-based action to new heights when it ships this winter in time for Christmas.

Some Unreal II screenshots appeared in CGW magazine a while back and some people was confused regarding the shadow in these screens. Now Epic Games, Mark Rein explains what happend. Read more below for full story and the new "correct" screens..

GameSpot sits down and talk to Digital Extremes lead designer Pancho Eekels about Unreal Tournament II, "the recently confirmed first-person shooter".

Pancho Eekels: Unreal II is a single-player-focused mission-based game and has lots of story and background, tasks, and events, as well as a bit more action than the original. Unreal Tournament 2 is a sequel to the original multiplayer-focused action-packed game for the PC. Unreal Championship for Xbox is similar to Unreal Tournament 2 in the multiplayer focus and action but incorporates the element of console play into an FPS that many have not been able to do yet.

Seven new movies in DivX AVI format is now available which show the Infogrames press event where Unreal Tournament II was unveiled to the press. The movies offer plenty of ShakyCam footage shot off computer monitors that illustrate various new features and aspects of the game's design along with gameplay action, as well as a few bits on Unreal II and Unreal Championship.
