More than 40% of all homes in the USA contain at least one video game console, adding up to serious demand for electricity.
A study by NRDC and Ecos Consulting on the energy use of game consoles reveals that they consume an estimated 16 billion kilowatt-hours per year, enough to power the city of San Diego for an entire year, while more user-friendly power management features could cut the nation's electricity bill by more than $1 billion per year.

Due to a shift in game releases on multiple platforms from Q3/Q4 2008 to Q1 2009 the operating result for the Q3 2008 turned from a profit into a loss.
