Last Thursday in San Francisco, Konami held their annual Gamers' Day event to announce the games in their 2005 lineup. Arguably the biggest announcement of the event was Castlevania: Curse of Darkness.

While past Castlevania games have focused on the struggle between Dracula and the Belmont clan, Curse of Darkness introduces players to an entirely new storyline and main character – Hector, one of two Devil Forgemasters, who had once refined his skills under Dracula. Told in true Castlevania style, this action-packed tale of betrayal and revenge takes players on a journey through an expansive world filled with formidable foes and beautifully rendered environments to the ruins of Dracula’s castle.

According to various online sources the big announcement Konami is planning on January 27th (the same day Konami is having its Gamers Day press event) could be the unveiling of a new Calstlevania title for the PS2. According to rumors the February issue of Play Magazine will have world exclusive coverage on Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, which seems to be given extra credibility by speculations on the IGN forums (tthanks Demonews). We will know more in a few days time when we come back from Konami's press event. UPDATE : The first screens from the Play preview have been brought online.
