For those unfamiliar with the awesome Fallout world setting, imagine that the future we had pictured in the '50s had actually come true. Household robots and ray beams exist, and there is still that bizarre '50s sense of misogyny and racism that is somehow both hilarious and offensive at the same time. Unfortunately, one of the other big '50s predictions — the entire world would blow the crap out of each other in a nuclear war — also came true. Most of the world is a

Today Interplay released its
4th quater 2003 results and apart from the usual digits & numbers (Interplay seems to be doing better, but still has financial hurdles to overcome) the real interesting bits came during the conference call disclosing several new titles. The fact that Interplay wants to focus on console titles is no surprise, neverthless KingPin 2 is in the works, but also new titles in the long running Decent & EarthWorms Jim franchise. Most important of all, an external studio is working on Fallout 3 (although not set in the typical D&D universe due to the Atari/Interplay dispute).

Noticed on
RPGDOT that Silver Style's Carsten Strehse (currently working on The Fall, previously known for Soldiers Of anarchy) has put up some interesting comments regarding the demise and possible future of Black Isle and Fallout 3. "Well, we are definatly interested in hiring some of the former Balck Isle staff. I try to get in contact with them. I also disclose no big secret if I tell you that we have found a mayor partner for The Fall and that money wouldn't be the biggest problem when we would try to get the FO licence. My biggest concern is the reaction of the FO community. We're all huge fans of FO here and have deepest respect for the achievements of the dev team. However, we are no Black Isle, we are Silver Style. And I'm afraid that the community wouldn't be pleased with a FO3 that wasn't developed by the original team. Even if I'm very sure that we could deliver a real stunning game."

Here is the Fallout 2 editor, the scripts, and the script compiler. BlackIsle was were able to take some time and put together some documentation for it (and an installer), but a lot of it will require some trial and error. If you want to hammer away at it, well, here it is. Please keep in mind that this editor is not the holy grail. It was never meant to be released to the public. As a result, you may boot the editor up and realize that it doesn't match your expectations for a commercially-released RPG editor. You may suffer some retina burn. Perhaps a strange itching sensation. Constipation. So be prepared - you are about to experience a game editor, intended only for developers. Read more for download links ...

Black Isle Studios tossed up another exciting update from the world of Fallout, filled with questions galore, questions with answers, questions without answers, pies in the face, the EPA, occasional mentions of Dave Hendee, the final fate of the deathclaws, why Horrigan is in that silly armor, and a brief summary of the life and times of the New California Republic and the Brotherhood of Steel.
