Blizzard announced that it will co-host special midnight signing events at 4 retail locations in California, and Europe to commemorate the release of WoW: The Burning Crusade. Doors open at midnight on Jan. 15/16, allowing gamers at each location to be among the first to purchase the WoW expansion, and get it signed by Blizzard developers.

Blizzard announced that recent hardware upgrades and retrofits might allow them to begin testing the ability to go longer than a week between maintenance periods. Instead regular maintenance tasks will run during off-peak with realms live, starting Dec. 26. Off-peak rolling restarts might be needed if necessary; however the downtime for each realm would be less than 10 minutes if it was required.

In keeping with its aggressive stance against cheating in World of Warcraft, Blizzard banned over 105,000 accounts were closed and 12 million gold was removed from the game economies in Europe, Korea, and the US in the month of November. The banned accounts were taking part in activities that violate the game's Terms of Use, including using third-party programs to farm gold and items, which severely impacts the economy of a realm and the overall game enjoyment for all players.
