Today Ubisoft announced that it has signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Taito to publish and distribute three of its titles in 2006. The first title to be released by Ubisoft will be Exit, a puzzle action game for people of all ages, exclusively for the PSP system in February.

Ubisoft has released its Q1 2006 financial results, which reports an overall increase of 20%. More importantly, the January-March 2006 release schedule was included, which sheds light on quite a few new titles. For starters, Brothers in Arms is coming to the PSP, Blazing Angels gets an X360 edition, 187: Ride or Die is getting a PSP version under the name of Street Riders, Splinter Cell Essentials has been confirmed, and it seems that Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter is no longer coming to the Gamecube. During a Nintendo press conference, Spanish website
Meristation received information from a Ubisoft spokes person that Ubisoft Canada (team behind Beyond Good & Evil) is working on a FPS for Nintendo's next-gen Revolution console, to be unveiled at E3 2006. While details are obviously limited the website claims that the unnamed title will take full advantage of the Revolution's unique controller and that it will take place in a Doom-like environment.

In a somewhat interesting turn of events Ubisoft CEO Guillemot said in an interview with
French newspaper Les Echos (question nr. 6) that its efforts to counter EA's hostile takeover might be futile in the long run. The long time CEO said the company still has a few elements in their favour, such as its strong market value, meaning shareholders would not be easily swayed. But on the other hand Guillemot also said that if the price was right, he would consider the offer as long as it benefits the shareholders and the Ubisoft employees. The interview promplty showed results as the Ubisoft shares went up $1.66 (1.36 euros).

Ubisoft announced today that it will launch the Splinter Cell Chaos Theory “Best Map” contest this summer. Everyone can create his own map thanks to the map editor provided with the game. The Jury – whose members are the creators of the Versus Mode from Ubisoft’s studio in Annecy (France)– will reward the 10 best maps created. Today Ubisoft officially opens its door in the provincial capital where it intends to invest 75 M$ CAD and create 200 jobs within five years. Ubisoft will start with 75 jobs in Quebec City this year. Today Ubisoft announced results for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2004-2005, which showed an 8 % sales growth over last year's results. The included release schedule shows that Rainbow Six Lockdown has once again been delayed, this time to Q3 (July-September). More curious is the lack of PC specifications for Lockdown and 187 Ride or Die, something we experienced with Ghost Recon 2 right before its cancellation. Today Ubisoft announced the creation of a new videogame development studio that will employ 200 designers, animators and programmers in Quebec City. This announcement is part of the recently announced project to create 1000 new jobs by 2010 in Quebec, thereby bringing its total number of employees to 2000 in the province.
