survey released by the Pew Internet & American Life Project reveals that 53% of American adults play video games and 20% play just about every day. In all, 81% of people between 18 and 29 play games, compared with 23% of people 65 and older, while 50% of all women get their game on, slightly less than males, at 55%. While video games don't make you smarter, the higher your education, the more likely you are to play (57% of gamers went to college, against 40% had less than a high-school education).

The Belgian Entertainment Association (representing game publishers)
revealed that starting Dec. 1, 2008, you will no longer be able to rent games in Belgium. While renting out video games was never legally allowed, it has been condoned for many years. The BEA managed to pass a law, in effect since Jun. 1, that new titles could no longer be rented out, but the current stock could, but only until December. Outlets like GameMania cry foul play, claiming that banning rentals will reduce business by 10%.

The NPD Group has released sales numbers for the month of September and to no surprise the Wii is still on top of everybody's game, followed by the DS. Sales for the Xbox 360 continue to surge after its recent price drop, putting it in a solid 3rd position well ahead of the PS3. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed became the #1 selling title with over 600k units while Wii Fit sold over 500k copies. The games industry sales dropped 7% ($1.27 billion) compared to Sept. 2007's numbers, which did include Halo 3.

canceling pre-orders, now Columbia announced that it wants to bring back the original cast for a new movie (script written by The Office producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky). According to an ad in the 3rd season DVD set for FOX's Prison Break released earlier this week, Brash Entertainment will be making the action series into a game. Due to a political conspiracy, an innocent man is sent to death row, and his only hope is his brother who makes it his mission to deliberately get himself sent to the same prison in order to break the both of them out from the inside. According to parental guidance organization What They Play, recent polls conducted on 3,000 respondents in two separate polls concluded that drinking beer and watching pornography were less objectionable activities for children than playing certain video games.
