The legendary arcade classic that introduced gamers to co-op street-brawling action is back and looking better than ever. Team up with a friend or prepare to go it alone, because Double Dragon is hitting Xbox Live Arcade Wednesday, May 9, at 9 a.m. GMT (2 a.m. PDT).

Empire Interactive announced that it will bring the furious excitement of the classic Speedball II: Brutal Deluxe to Xbox Live Arcade. It will include the original version, as well as a remade HD edition with more teams and downloadable content.

Some 20 years ago, Taito rocked the arcades with Double Dragon, which has been an all-time favorite amongst fighting game fans, and now it seems Empire Interactive is remaking the classic for Xbox Live Arcade, currently scheduled for March. As usual, Double Dragon will feature the original edition of the game but also an optimized version with updated graphics, while it will also sport multiplayer co-op, and online multiplayer. The customary achievements and online rankings will also be present.

Atlus U.S.A., Inc. announced today that is has shipped "Double Dragon" for the Game Boy Advance to retailers nationwide. This enhanced version of the game will feature stages, modes, techniques and enemies not seen in the original arcade game.
