Gearbox has revealed that they are working on yet another patch for their PC port of Halo: Combat Evolved. The v1.03 update patch is expected to be released early next week and will add several new features (anti team killing, increased network performance, etc.) as well as various game fixes and dedicated server updates. As announced last night Gearbox has now released the demo for their recently released Halo:Combat Evolved. This demo features "The Silent Cartographer" mission from the single-player campaign, as well as the "Blood Gulch" map for multiplayer action. The demo supports up to 16 players in online Slayer and CTF matches. There's no save-game support, and vehicle selection is limited (

As was promised by Gearbox (they said in our Halo interview a demo was coming shortly after game release), tomorrow there will be a demo for Gearbox/Bungie/Microsoft's recently released Halo: Combat Evolved. The demo will feature "The Silent Cartographer" from the single-player campaign, "Blood Gulch" with limited vehicles for your multiplayer satisfaction, as well as support for up to 16 players in Slayer and CTF multiplayer modes. Halo Dedicated Server 1.02 has been released; it adds the ability to run multiple instances of the server on a single machine, and enables RCON functionality (you can remotely control the server, without needing direct access to the machine). Gearbox and Bungie are making this available tonight, so that folks running dedicated servers can be prepared when the client patch goes live, DO NOT INSTALL THIS YET, nobody will be able to play on your server. Simply get it to your server tonight, so that you're ready when the switchover occurs tomorrow. The mapfiles are not included, they will be released tomorrow, for those who don't already have them.

Bungie, not willing to let the first weekend go by with no dedicated server in the hands of the fans, has made available this pre-release version of the dedicated server. It's completely standalone; it doesn't require anything, not even a copy of Halo PC. Again, Bungie stresses that this is a pre-release version of the server; it's here for the die-hards who want to host games NOW. A more polished version will be coming soon (
