Microsoft is taking a precautionary measure and voluntarily providing customers with a free retrofit to the Xbox 360 Wireless Wheel, due to a very small number of incidents of a malfunction, where a component in the Wheel chassis may in rare cases overheat and release smoke when the AC-DC power supply is used to energize the Wheel.

Revealed last week Microsoft officially announced a retail price drop for its Xbox 360 consoles in Europe, and launched the Xbox 360 Elite (€449,99). From Friday, 24th August 2007, the 20 GB Xbox 360 will be reduced by €50 to €349,99, while the Core version (no HD) will be reduced €20 to €279,99.

A leaked advertisement for major retailer Carrefour reveals that Microsoft will also drop the Xbox 360 price in Europe. The announcement will most likely be made next week during the Leipzig Games Convention as the ad clearly states that the new price will go in effect August 24, also the launch date for the X360 Elite in Europe. From that date on the Premium will sell for 349 €, while the Core will carry a 279 € price tag.

Microsoft issued an Xbox 360 system/dash update, so if you log in to Xbox Live you will receive a prompt to accept this mandatory update. This unannounced update is minor as it merely prepares your Xbox 360 for the wireless guitars that are being released in a few months. No Other new features are included, which is planned for later this year as part of Microsoft's biannual release cycle.

Microsoft kicked off the greatest holiday lineup in video game history by announcing it will reduce the estimated retail price (ERP) of Xbox 360 by $50 (U.S.) beginning Aug. 8. Soon to follow, Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) will release its blockbuster video game title Madden NFL 08 on Aug. 14.

Just as Sony's PS3 price cut was prematurely leaked through early ads, the rumored Xbox 360 price cut might also become a reality soon. Ads for Walmart and Toys 'R Us reveal that on Sunday, August 12, both retail chain stores will drop the price for the Xbox 360 by $50, to $349. Whether this reduction is only for the premium system was not clear, as that was the only model printed in the ad.
