In its first week of availability, a whopping 45 percent of people who bought the new Mario Kart DS racing game for Nintendo DS already have test driven its free Wi-Fi capabilities.

Nintendo's official Wi-Fi Service website reveals that people who purchase Mario Kart DS may be experiecing problems in multiplayer as the "Global Wi-Fi Service is experiencing intermittent problems." The problems are only for Mario Kart as the only other multiplayer enabled title Tony Hawk's American Sk8Land seems to have a clean bill of health. There seems to be no particular reason for the hiccups but Nintendo asks to maybe move location or turn of interfering devices such as wireless LAN, microwave ovens, cordless devices, computers.

The Mario Kart series has gone wireless, letting players race and battle with up to eight karts at once, regardless of whether everyone has a game card. An all-star cast will round out a truly all-star lineup of more than 30 courses drawn from every Mario Kart game, not to mention brand-new tracks and arenas.

The game, which launches today, brings high-octane competition to the couches of America. The time of year is approaching when all the movers and shakers of the European gaming world head to London to see the latest that the world of gaming has to offer. This year for the first time ECTS forms part of the newly created London Games Week, a packed schedule of gaming events taking place in the last week of August. As part of London Games Week the ECTS show is coming to Earls Court, London on 27th to 29th August and Nintendo will be there.
