Xbox Live Had It's Hottest Weekend Ever

Xbox Live, the world's most intense unified online gaming service, just hosted its hottest weekend ever. This past Sunday, November 2, Xbox Live set new usage records. On that day, 83,652 unique users spent 262,268 hours on the service -- or more than three hours per user. Sunday's most-played Xbox Live game was "Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3" with 24,478 gamers signing in for battle. At one point, 6,731 gamers played the game simultaneously.

Dead Man's Hand (Xbox) Site Goes Live

Atari, Inc. and Human Head Studios have announced that the web site for Dead Man's Hand has gone live. The site features downloadables (movies, screenshots, wallpapers), character profiles and details about the weapons from the upcoming Xbox western. Using the latest Unreal technology (Epic Games), Dead Man's Hand lets players step into the boots of El Tejon, a Wild West gunslinger hell-bent on settling a score with a double-crossing gang of outlaws.

MicorSoft Reveals Xbox Live Pricing

Noticed on VE3D that Microsoft has announced the pricing structure for Xbox Live that will come into effect during the third quarter of this year: Xbox Live one year renewal/subscription - $49.99, Xbox Live monthly rate - $5.99, Xbox Live Voice Communicator - $29.99, Xbox Live Starter Kit - $69.99 (contains demos, headset and one year subscription). In a brief interview with GameSpy, Xbox Live Group PR manager David Hufford suggested that Microsoft might include free trial subscriptions with certain titles that feature online play.

Xbox Live Passes 350,000 Subscribers

Microsoft has signed up more than 350,000 subscribers worldwide for its Xbox Live online video gaming service, as it prepares to bring the platform to Europe. The company had claimed sales of 150,000 subscription kits one week after its November launch and 250,000 kits as of the first week of January for its initial roll-out in the United States and Canada. Microsoft launched the $49 subscription kit enabling online play for its Xbox game console last November in the United States and in mid-January in Japan. It will be released in Europe on March 14. The first set of downloads was recently launched for the game "Mech Assault," and Microsoft registered more than 172,000 downloads for the new content in its first week. The next major game to have downloads will be "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell" from Ubi Soft Entertainment; a new level for the game, called "Kola Cell," will be available simultaneously with the Xbox Live launch in Europe.

Xbox Live Set For European Launch

Telewest Broadband has announced ahead of the start of Microsoft's X02 event in Seville, that it is an official broadband network partner for the European launch on 14th March 2003, a year after the launch of the console in Europe. Xbox owners will need a starter kit to get going, which will retail at around £39.99. It contains an Xbox Communicator kit, subscription to the Xbox Live network, and two free online titles. Consumer beta tests of Xbox Live are set to take place with 3,000 gamers in the UK, France and Germany from 30th October, with an open beta test scheme launching on November 30th.
