Net revenue for Q1 was $256.8 million, compared to last year's $240.4 million, driven by Grand Theft Auto IV, Carnival Games, NBA 2K9 and Midnight Club: Los Angeles. Net loss, however, rose from last year's $38 million to $50.4 million, due to higher marketing, legal, and research and development expenses. So far, GTA IV has sold 13 million units, while the next installment in the X360-exclusive DLC is expected before Oct. 31, 2009.

Red Mile Entertainment's latest fiscal statement reveals that the publisher is in a bad financial position with barely $341k in cash, which it expects to run out of Mar. 31, 2009. Since its launch, Red Mile has not made any profit and lost $35 million. Last year, a
merger with SilverBirch went sour at the last minute, and earlier this month, the Heroes over Europe developer terminated its contract due to non-payment, while co-publisher Atari also backed out. Activision Blizzard's Dec. quarter beat expectations, and while it ran an operating loss of $148 million, its operating income was $644 million, the highest in the company's history, driven by World of Warcraft, Guitar Hero and Call of Duty titles. During the investors conf. call, it was revealed that three new IPs would launch in 2009: Prototype, Singularity and an unannounced racer from Bizarre Creations. A new James Bond game is in the works but is getting delayed in order to not compete with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 later this year. in additional to Guitar Hero: Metallica, three more titles in the franchise are planned for 2009: a compilation, a new DS title and a cryptic "major restage." The StarCraft II beta and Wolfenstein are due this summer.

Capcom announced its latest financial results revealing that net sales decreased 8.6% from the same term last year, operating income decreased to 57.2% compared to 2007, ordinary income dropped 67.7% and a whopping 95% less net income. The reason for the slacking performance is its weak arcade business, the rise of the yen's exchange rate, and not having the release of flagship titles until Q4 (Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter IV).

THQ released its financial results for Q3 2009 revealing net sales of $357.3 million, compared to last year's $509.6 mill., and a net loss of $191.8 mill., compared to $15.5 million net income the year before. Sales were driven by Saints Row 2 (2.6 mill. units), WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 (4 mill. units), de Blob (700k units) and Big Beach Sports (1.2 mill. units). However, due to lower-than-expected sales, THQ will further reduce spending through studio dispositions, project and 24% headcount reductions.
