Moviehole is claiming to have word from inside sources that Thomas Jane, who played Frank Castle in The Punisher, is in talks with Paramount to headline the recently announced film version of the game 'Splinter Cell.' To prepare for his role in The Punisher, Thomas Jane trained a few months with the Navy Seals, so a role as Sam Fisher would not be too much of a stretch. In the Splinter Cell movie, Fisher is sent into action when two CIA agents mysteriously disappear in Azerbaijan.

Today, Paramount announced that it has acquired the film rights to Tom Clancy's video game Splinter Cell and hired Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) to direct. Variety says Berg is writing the script along with Splinter Cell game writer J.T. Petty and John J. McLaughlin (Man of the House). Paramount said the movie is aimed at combining the game's blend of stealth action with a "dynamic, original" character. Whether Michael Ironside will be playing Sam Fisher (he does the voice in all the games) has not yet been announced ...

official Splinter Cell Chaos Theory web site which features tons of images and information, but you can also access the Chaos Theory Experience, a Flash presentation that delivers an emotional punch by thrusting visitors directly into Sam Fisher’s world, illuminating selected details of the compelling storyline, and highlighting just how important Fisher’s work is to combating information warfare and maintaining global security. The Chaos Theory Experience will ultimately consist of six separate modules (and is launching with one); registered ubi.com recruits will be alerted by email when new modules appear.
