Missing in E3 2008, Activision revealed earlier this week that it is once again an exhibitor at this year's weeklong gaming conference in Los Angeles. However, people looking forward to checking out StarCraft II or Diablo III will be disappointed as Blizzard confirmed it will not be attending the E3 2009, claiming, "our current focus is on the ongoing development of Diablo III, StarCraft II, and World of Warcraft." Ubisoft seems to be weathering the down economy pretty well, with solid financial results, no layoffs, but studio acquisitions instead. Its Red Storm studio, known for the Rainbow Six franchise, is also on the move, literally, as on May 1, 2009 it will be moving into a new 35,000 square feet office in Cary, North Carolina for the next 10 years.

THQ released its financial results for Q3 2009 revealing net sales of $357.3 million, compared to last year's $509.6 mill., and a net loss of $191.8 mill., compared to $15.5 million net income the year before. Sales were driven by Saints Row 2 (2.6 mill. units), WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 (4 mill. units), de Blob (700k units) and Big Beach Sports (1.2 mill. units). However, due to lower-than-expected sales, THQ will further reduce spending through studio dispositions, project and 24% headcount reductions.
