The Academy announced the nominations for the GAME British Academy Video Games Awards which this year feature 39 different games, lead by Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare's seven BAFTA nominations, Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA IV) garners six, Fable II and LittleBigPlanet follow with five each, Steven Spielberg wins his first video games nomination for Boom Blox.

Xfire's latest release includes an in-game web browser, so gamers who already use Xfire to chat with friends, take screenshots and capture game-play video no longer have to alt-tab away from their game. "Scroll Lock + W" or a simple search from the main Xfire window launches the new web browser in-game.

SF IV features a mix of returning favorites (Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li etc.) along with new characters created for this game, such as Crimson Viper, Abel, El Fuerte, and Rufus. Characters and environments are rendered in stylized 3D, while the game is played in the classic 2D perspective with additional 3D camera flourishes.

Inspired by the landmark 1988 arcade hit, Splatterhouse combines visceral, adrenaline-soaked combat with horror elements to deliver an original gaming experience that defies the boundaries of the traditional action category with over-the-top gore and shocking new gameplay mechanics. Sins of a Solar Empire will feature several micro-expansions over the next year, starting with Entrenchment which promises to bring fans a Starbase defense platform, turret upgrades to make them more powerful, mine fields and a Subspace Inhibitor platform that will slow enemy ships within its range. Originally scheduled for Feb. 4, then bumped to Feb. 11, 2009, and now set for Feb 24, 2009.

Burnout Paradise gives you license to wreak havoc in Paradise City, a seamless racing battleground, with massive traffic-heavy roads to abuse. The PC edition will have expanded online features, and community-driven content. The upcoming Cops and Robbers pack is said to bring the thrills and spills of cops and robbers car chases to the game.

Just Cause 2 stars Rico Rodriquez, back to wreak havoc once again, this time with a new destination – the huge playground of the Southeast Asian islands of Panau, in an over-the-top Hollywood-esque blockbuster of a video game. Originally scheduled for Q4 2008, then delayed until Q1 2009, it is rumored that Avalanche has further pushed Just Cause 2 until Q3 2009.
