Video Game Sales Up 11%, Led by UK and US, Japan Declines

Top Global Markets, which combines sales numbers from The NPD Group, GfK Chart-Track Limited and Enterbrain, Inc., has released its global video game sales revealing that the market grew 11% in 2008 to 409.9 million, compared to 2007's 367.7 million units. Both US and UK showed growth, with 15% and 26% respectively, while Japan saw a 13% decline in 2008, mainly due to a decrease in PS2 titles.

'Yakuza 3' (PS3) - 13 New Screens

Having re-acquired the rights from Vivendi, Ludlum Entertainment has granted EA the exclusive worldwide license to create video games based on the works of Robert Ludlum, including the Jason Bourne series. The first game to be released as part of the multi-year agreement is based on Jason Bourne and is currently in development with Starbreeze Studios.

Disney Working on New 'Tron' Game?

While Disney has been laying off people at various internal development studios, it seems it also maybe have a new Tron title in the works. According to Variety sources, TR2N will be tied to the film sequel that its sibling studio is producing, starring Jeff Bridges, Garret Hedlund and Olivia Wilde and be directed by Joseph Kosinski. The movie is currently scheduled for 2011, which gives DIS plenty of time to work out a quality product to coincide with the movie release.
