PlayStation Store Gets PSP Demo, Rock Band Tracks, and Trailers ...

Sony has rolled out new PlayStation Store content, starting with a Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 PSP demo, those 9 tracks included in the Euro edition of Rock Band (Blur's Beetlebum, H-BlockX's Countdown to Insanity, Die Toten Hosen's Hier Kommt Alex, Muse's Hysteria, Les Wampas' Manu Chao, Tokio Hotel's Monsoon, Pleymo's New Wave, Juli's Perfekte Welle, and Oasis' Rock ‘N’ Roll Star, $1.99/each), the PixelJunk Monsters music album and the usual game/movie trailers.

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 features new courses and wacky characters, along with hundreds of customization options including clothes, accessories, and equipment, as well as a wide range of exciting multiplayer options such as 16-player online tournaments and ad hoc capability for one-on-one or Stroke Mode challenges.

Microsoft to Give Xbox Live Arcade A Makeover

Xbox Live GM Marc Whitten revealed to Next-Gen that Microsoft is going to give its Xbox Live Arcade service a makeover by "delisting" unpopular XBLA titles (6+ months old, less than 6% sell through, less than 65% score average). On top of the recent size limit hike, Microsoft will also tackle the DRM issue (couldn't move over purchased titles when the X360 died) by releasing a tool that will let people consolidate their titles to a new unit. Last, but not least, the software giant will also start up a first-party studio that will solely develop Xbox Live Arcade titles. Unfortunately, this means there will be no Spring dashboard update.

'Guitar Hero III' (ALL) World Record Broken

On May 17th, 13 year-old Grapevine native Daniel Johnson beat the Guinness World Record for high score on a single song for Guitar Hero III, by scoring 890,971 points while playing “Through the Fire and Flames” by Dragonforce at the Expert Level on his first attempt, 10,000 points more than the previous record.

New 'Oddworld' Game In Development

While still many years from completion, Maxis co-founder Jeff Braun revealed to the Cord Weekly that he is working with original series creators Oddworld Inhabitants on a new installment in the franchise. During a seminar at the Wilfrid Laurier University yesterday, Braun revealed that the new title may take the episodic route, but nothing was certain yet, although he did say that the new Oddworld game will have a revolutionary, cinematic quality 3D animation system rivaling that of CG motion pictures.

Mandalay Media to Acquire GreenScreen Interactive

Only a few weeks ago did GreenScreen Interactive announce it was acquiring ZOO Digital Publishing and Destination Software, as it now has been acquired itself by another company. Mandalay Media, who itself has recently merged with Twistbox Entertainment, is looking to acquire various types of companies in digital distribution, interactive entertainment, and online digital media and publishing.

'Shattered Suns' Gets Further Delayed

Shattered Suns is a new science-fiction, real-time strategy game with unique features such as three-dimensional battles, a moving battlefield, player-designed units, unique economic challenges and an interactive campaign. Originally scheduled for 2007, delayed until 2008, then pushed until May, 3rd time must the charm as it is now slated for August 19, 2008.
