The non-linear plot of Officers preserves the established facts of the origins of WWII and allows gamers to lead any of three sides to victory: USSR, Germany and Allies (GB and USA). The game recreates the real structures of all participants' armies, using the real arsenal, equipment and military techniques.

Canadian government agency Ontario Media Development Corporation is allocating $1 million to two Canadian based game developers to fund prototypes for upcoming titles. Silicon Knights, currently working on Too Human, plans a third-person action/psychological thriller for 2010, while Digital Extremes, currently working on Dark Sector, will use their part for a "third-person action game with an old school horror theme" on the PS3/X360/PC (thanks Firingsquad).

ND Games announces 9th Company: Roots of Terror, a new action-oriented RTS developed by Lesta Studios, creators of Pacific Storm, using their brand-new proprietary engine. hell-tech has signed Lesta Studios' RTS for various European/Eastern countries.

During an analyst meeting today, EA confirmed that apart from the announced PC, NDS (Spore Creatures) and Wii versions of Spore, there will also be next-gen console editions. As Pandemic is wrapping up Mercenaries 2, it has already begun work on the previously mentioned Lord of the Rings title. Several of EA's franchises are getting new installments, such as Burnout, Skate, Rock Band, and a new Need for Speed will get back to its roots. Peter Moore said that EA Sports plans 5 new IPs: one casual for this year, the other core IPs will be spread over the next 3 years. EA Casual is planning several additional Sims titles: MySims Kingdom (NDS/Wii), MySims PC, MySims Party (NDS/Wii), SimAnimals and SimCity Creator.

THQ's Saints Row 2, using Volition's proprietary open-world engine, will offer vastly expanded customization options, a totally transformed and expanded city of Stilwater, all new vehicles, sandbox tools and toys as well as both online co-op and competitive multiplayer.

Last week EA hinted that a big announcement was coming, and a big announcement has arrived. While the C&C Kane's Wrath has year to be announced, EALA is already working on the next installment in the franchise, as the April 2008 issue of PC Gamer issue (hits news stands March 4) and Hungarian PC Guru (hits Feb. 14) will unveil the first details on Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3.
