SNK is preparing yet another installment in the long running side scrolling military arcade shooter series, Metal Slug 7. While there is no date set for Europe or North America, it is currently scheduled for a July 17th, 2008 release in Japan.

The fourth title in the Metal Slug series joins the Xbox Live Arcade library as Metal Slug 3 arrives this Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 9:00 a.m. GMT (2:00 a.m. PST). An update of the original arcade version, Metal Slug 3 is a run-and-gun video game updated with HD graphics and now features co-op multiplayer over Xbox Live.

Celebrating Metal Slug’s 10th Anniversary, SNK Playmore and Ignition Entertainment will release Metal Slug Anthology, containing: Metal Slug 1 through 5; with Metal Slug 1 and 2 making their first appearances on a home console, since the NEOGEO AES system.

Since its initial revelation at the TGS 2004, SNK Playmore's Metal Slug 3D has not really been heard of. For its 10th anniversary, Metal Slug is going to try and make the jump to 3D with an all new adventure. You will be able to choose from 4 characters, and the game will allow you to customize your own weapons with items you find along your way.

In addition to everything that made the arcade original a worldwide hit, the Xbox version of METAL SLUG 3 will have some brand new features and original missions accessible once you've cleared certain conditions. Players can choose from over 10 new slug vehicles exclusive to METAL SLUG 3, including the Slug Copter and the very unusual Elephant Slug, which comes complete with a trunk-spray weapon.

SNK announced today that the company has shipped the first home version of the hit arcade title Metal Slug 3 for the Xbox. METAL SLUG 3 will support the Xbox Live leaderboards and is exclusively for the Xbox in North America.
